LT 785 Research Methods in Educational
Technology |
Course Summary
Designed to develop the skills of the practitioner to be a consumer of
computer-based learning research. This course covers basic and applied
computer-based education research design and the interpretation
statistics. DSU will teach this course. |
Work Sample
The final project of this course was a
literature and
research review. My partner
and I chose to review research about the effect of technology on
learning to read-specifically whether the use of technology helps or
hinders students who are learning to read. |
LT 741 Introduction
to Distance Education |
Course Summary
This course is an analysis of the history, philosophy, design, and
evolution of distance learning systems. Distance learning is a worldwide
concept and the course uses examples from many countries to emphasize
institutional, program and course design methods and approaches. The
course assumes a system perspective in the analysis of distance
education and the distance learner. The various components of distance
learning systems are introduced and overviewed including: a) course
development and design; b) course production; c) course delivery; d)
learner support; e) evaluation of courses and the methods of cybernetic
control of both student performance and instructional effectiveness; and
f) research and evaluation of distance learning systems. DSU teaches
this course. |
Work Sample
As part of this course, I wrote a
position paper
regarding my beliefs about the necessity of training in technology
tools. While this paper was
written with distance education specifically in mind, I do feel training
in technology tools is necessary for their use in the regular classroom
as well. |
CET 720 Evaluation of
Technology Outcomes |
Course Summary
Focus on the processes and procedures for identifying the outcomes of
technology use at the learner, program, and institutional levels. A
survey of strategies is also conducted for using technology in student
assessment and for assessing learner outcome of technology integrated
curricula. |
Work Sample
As part of this class, I worked together with three of my peers to
create a technology
evaluation for the technology plan of the Brandon Valley School
District. We created an
evaluation plan that takes into account the needs and thoughts of
administration, faculty and staff, and students. |
Summer 2010
LT 731 Multimedia
Production |
Course Summary
Students learn principles of visual design, use of sound and color, and
hands-on production of text and animated resources for use in
educational and training materials for the development of interactive
multimedia and hypermedia lessons and presentations. DSU and USD will
both teach this course. At DSU, this course will require a summer
one-week campus residency. |
Work Sample
These projects fit under the theme of knowledge quite easily because I
was given the opportunity to use several different technology tools. The
final project of the course was to create a
webpage to show the projects I had completed. I have used more than
one of the tools demonstrated in my final project with my students and
in my lesson planning. |
CET 751 Computer
Hardware and Networking Essentials |
Course Summary
A study of computer hardware and networks used in the educational
setting. Topics include hardware maintenance and upgrade, network
wiring, topologies, planning, installation, and maintenance of computer
networks. This course requires a summer one week campus residency. |
Work Sample
This course required a research project.
The project was to select a topic to research and present in
class during our week on campus.
My research was regarding
things to think
about when purchasing a computer.
This research was based on one person looking to purchase a
computer, but could be reasonably expanded to work on a larger scale. |
CET 753 Network
Management in Educational Institutions |
Course Summary
Network management of educational institutions and networks. Topics
include protocols, security, configuration of storage, backup and
performance, printing, remote access, virtual private networks, tuning
and troubleshooting. |
Work Sample
As part of this course, I learned how to
find information and
troubleshoot a server that was set up as a partition on my computer.
|
CET 749 Policy and
Management for Distance Education |
Course Summary
Using the systems approach, this course examines the model of governance
of distance education organizations. The course focuses on
identification and analysis of the institutional policies, management
procedures, and strategic planning efforts necessary to managing
distance education programs in a way that is engaging and equitable to
the learner. Topics include: conducting needs assessments, preparing new
programming tools, marketing plans, developing budgets and management
plans, developing program evaluations, and so on. |
Work Sample
As part of this course, I created a PowerPoint presentation, which
outlines a sample
distance education policy for a K-12 school district. |
Summer 2011
LT 712 Principles of
Learning for Instructional Technology |
Course Summary
This course will review theories of learning as they relate to on-line
and technology supported learning. Principal theories of learning with a
foundation in instructional design, such as behavioral learning,
cognitive information processing theory, and constructivist learning
will focus class activities and discussion. Also studied are the factors
affecting human learning, including implications for the design and
management of instruction. USD
will teach this course. |
Work Sample
As part of a group, I worked to
compare two online
learning environments, Moodle and Schooltown, to determine which was
the best choice for students. |
Summer 2012
LT 716 Systematic Design
of Instruction |
Course Summary
Students will learn concepts and tools for applying systems theory to
instructional design, including needs, instructional, learner, and
context analysis, objectives, assessment, strategy, development, and
evaluation. Addresses client learning needs in various organizational
settings: business, industry, government, health care, education, and
not-for-profit. USD will teach
this course. |
Work Sample
My final project in this course was the creation of
a plan for an iPad training
for teachers just receiving iPads.
The plan included face-to-face instruction and the use of online
tutorials to make teachers comfortable in using their iPads.
|
CET 750 Multimedia II |
Course Summary
Developing computer-based educational software using hypermedia,
authoring languages, telecommunications, and programming languages based
on current educational research. This course requires a 4-5 day campus
residency. |
Work Sample
This course was more open-ended than my earlier multimedia class because
I could choose the types of tools I wanted to create projects with.
I feel the projects I created for this class fit under the
knowledge theme as well.
Several of the tools I used n this class were tools I had never heard of
before and I appreciated the opportunity to try using them.
One of the projects I created
was a Public Service Announcement
encouraging students to think about their words before saying
them-especially calling names.
All projects created during this class may be found on
my Multimedia II
Cmap. |
Fall 2012
CET 756 Introduction to
Instructional Programming |
Course Summary
Computer programming to promote human/computer interaction, especially
as it applies to students and education. Emphasis on applying
fundamental programming concepts and proper programming techniques to
instruction. |
Work Sample
As part of this class, I created several different webpages using
programming language. One of
the pages I created was a
drag and drop fraction review
for one of my students to practice equivalent fractions.
I also made changes to given code to make the code work.
One of the pages created once the correct changes were made was a
review of the
names of states and their capitals.
I was able to offer the review page to a social studies teacher
to use with her students.
The knowledge of programming language I gained during this class also
helped me to troubleshoot my webpage as I was creating my portfolio-the
final project of the class was to create
a basic MSET portfolio.
The pages I created for that project have been tweaked and
customized to fit in with the rest of my website, but the basic
formatting of my final MSET portfolio was done using some of what I
learned about programming languages. |
Spring 2013
CET 765 Leadership in
Technology Change |
Course Summary
The course is designed to develop an understanding of how to create and
support technological change through a systems approach. Topics include
sources of resistance to change, tools for planning, decision-making and
change, creating and supporting a culture for learning and change, and
managing and institutionalizing change systems. |
Work Sample This course is
currently in progress.
As part of
this course, I created a concept
map based on 5 basic questions.
I used these questions to think about my school district and form
questions to ask in an effort to expand and define our technology
program.
I am working with a peer mentee to launch a blog/discussion board based
on a book. Our plan is to start
with her 4th grade class reading one book and commenting back
and forth with one another on Edmodo.
The plan is for my mentee to continue the program next year with
the addition of the 8th grade reading teacher and her class.
My mentee’s main request from this project is that I simply make
sure she is comfortable using Edmodo. Please be sure to check back
when I've updated my page to include this project! |
